Another space game review? Well, it’ll be a quick look at this title. So hang on to your hats as we dive in… Spaceship Damrey (3DS eshop) Developed by Kazuya Asano and Takemaru Abiko, Published by Level5 Price: $7.99/€7.99/£7.19 So, what is Starship Damrey? If you haven’t heard of Level5′s Guild series then let me summarize. The Guild series is a compilation of video games created by notable video game designers in Japan. The first bundle (Guild-01) was released around May 2012 in Japan and contains Liberation Maiden by Goichi Suda of Grasshopper Manufacture, Aero Porter by Yoot Saito, Crimson Shroud by Yasumi Matsuno known for his works on Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy VII, and Rental Bukiya de Omasse by Yoshiyuki Hirai who is not a developer oddly enough but rather a comedian. Three out of the four games were eventually released to the West on the 3DS eshop and were met with open arms… well, I have played all three games myself and I do like each of the three games available for their distinct styles and concepts. But that is for another time perhaps. Fast forward to today in May 2013 and we see the first of the Guild-02 collection reaching Western digital stores. Level5 had released their second compilation in March 2013 and gamers over here couldn’t wait to see the eventual Western release announcement. It came, everyone rejoiced and here we are. So the collection begins first off with a first-person adventure game: Starship Damrey, developed by a couple of dudes ...

Death Billiards from the Anime Mirai project is without a doubt one of the shortest, but most thought provoking anime I’ve seen in a LONG time. Animation, complements of MadHouse brim with flair and polish, getting to point quickly: that 2 individuals who die at the same time have a chance to play a game of pool to decide who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. And just a reminder: unless noted I won’t give any spoilers, so be sure to stick around. Though Death Billiards doesn’t have the time to develop a deep narrative or extensive backstory with characters, Its bread and butter relies on the plot and most importantly, hinges on the element of choice. At most, the story spends 5 or 7 minutes total on each character’s backstory, but ultimately is unimportant, only serving as a canvas for the story’s paint with subtly pigmented hues. Unlike magicians who conjures from thin air, nearly everything in the story is in plain view. So metaphorically, the show was more akin to an illusionist than anything else, merely making what’s on the other side of your lens appear different than it actually is. It’s up to you to adjust your vision and see things for what they truly are. And golly, what rare form this illusionist is in. The few tricks Death Billiards does pull from its masterful hat are carefully designed to second-guess & misdirect. And like in real life, superficial appearances cannot be avoided, but at the same time must ...

Here’s another look at a another forgotten classic. Even when it was released it was not well known and thus was easily overshadowed by other more popular titles like Command and Conquer: Tiberium Sun and Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, just to name a few. Those who did try the game though uncovered quite a gem. Also just a quick note, just as I thought I’d gotten over my Fire Emblem addiction Etrian Odyssey IV comes right in front of me and slaps me silly. But that is another post for another time, and with that little diversion set aside let’s continue, bearing in mind I’ll do my best to spoil as little as possible about this game… Back in the days the only way to experience a JRPG would be to play on a console as the PC RPG libraries were dominated with westeren RPG titles like Daggerfall, Diablo and Ultima. The creative minds behind Valkyrie Studios however took a step back and asked why we can’t have the best of both worlds? Well, one can only speculate what drove them to create Septerra Core, one of the few western developed JRPGs at that time. This did not mean that Septerra Core was flawless. In fact the released version had so many bugs if was like living in a roach motel, but I’ll get to that. However despite the bugs and some other issues, it is still very much a loved game amongst those who knew of it and played it. ...

Half the size smaller than the Hauppauge DVR and flexible to boot, the Elgato Game Capture HD is a powerful and compact capture card that is worth every cent and possibly the best one on the market to date. Months ago, I decided to purchase the Elgato Game Capture HD to 1.) Be an amateur “Youtuber” (okay, well maybe not) and 2.) Capture my gameplay videos for future prosperity. Looking back a month later at my decision, I must say that I am very happy and could sing praises about the Elgato. What is the Elgato Game Capture HD? As aforementioned, it is a portable and compact capture card that allows you to stream and record your gameplay in real time. Supporting HD consoles like: Playstation 3, Xbox360, and Wii U as well as retro consoles like: Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis (just to name a few), what type of gameplay you can capture and/or stream is limitless. In this review, I will be breaking down the Elgato Game Capture in the categories of: Setup/Installation, Software, and some of the pros and cons that this capture card holds. Let’s get started! And, no, I am not being paided or put up to writing this review. Doubt the company knows this blog exist like some of you do… Setup/Installation (5/5) The basic setup and installation for the Elgato Game Capture is dead simple. All you need to do is visit the Elgato Game Capture website, download the package, and install it. ...

As the second episode aired on Friday, I finished my first impressions a little late. Nevertheless, cue the opening song “Koisuru Lens” (Lens of Love) and here is my take on the first episode of a series, translated as Photo Girlfriend. (Written in katakana it is フォトカノ with the ‘kano’ part taken from the first character 彼 of kanojo, a girl or girlfriend.) Quick Summary: Photo Kano is adapted from a PSP dating sim and therefore we expected it to boast many characteristics of such a game. The male protagonist may be almost the most ordinary high school student to ever walk the Earth, but he has at least one distinguishable trait – he keeps picking up hobbies and dropping them, which is more than frowned upon in Japan. You should choose a club and stick to it until you graduate, right? When our main character, Kazuya Maeda, receives his father’s old digital camera (from the company Canan, paraphrasing Canon) at the beginning of the first episode, photography becomes his new hobby. Thus he spends the whole first day of school snapping pictures between classes, smiling at a girl here, taking a photo of a friend there. Little does he know a fellow student is watching his every step. Leaping out of the bushes, the president of the Photography club appears and Maeda-kun is doomed. There are two photography-oriented clubs at the Photo Kano high school. The female Photo club with 2.5 members, who focus on capturing the beauty of ...

As it stands PSY isn’t my favorite artist, and to use a token phrase of mine, to be quite honest, I really don’t care about his stuff at all. However, it doesn’t mean I’m super-fucking-glad-as-fuck this guy’s getting the recognition he deserves. Before Gangnam Style, PSY was doing the same thing, but just hadn’t gotten his big-big break yet and understandably so; thousands upon thousands of videos get uploaded to YouTube every SECOND, so it’s not uncommon for things to take a while to catch on. Now being someone who has an anime/videogame YouTube channel and wants to get subscribers in the 5-figures range, I can say, “respek” with conviction when I see someone like PSY get a break. Yesterday (April 13), the flashy Korean artist dropped a song called, “Gentleman” and apparently it got over 10 million views in under 24 hours. Not too long ago I had a hard time getting barely 100 views in 24 hours, so imagine my wtf-ness when I read about it. But upon a calm step back, I realize not everyone shares my sentiment and some people hate on the fact Gangnam Style propelled him to a point which realistically, NO other song can top. Ever. In the world. It’s crazy…his hip-thrusting song has over a BILLION views. It’s a big deal when something hits 1-million, a REALLY big deal when a video hits over 100 million, but a billion? The bar’s so high now it’s probably impossible PSY himself could reach it ...
