Greetings to you all! My name is Onery and it is nice to meet you all in this first post of mine! Well, introduction posts tend to be the first one most would put up, but as you may have noticed I got a bit too excited writing up a rather different post earlier. Well, it doesn’t matter too much. I shall use this post to explain a little bit on who I am and what I like. Perhaps this may shed some light on the nature of my posts, perhaps it won’t. Regardless, my many thanks (in advance) for stopping by and reading this post!
I am an avid video gamer. This fact, I hope, is quite evident in my review of Fire Emblem Awakening earlier this week. What I may not have shared however is that I’m game for any genre of games (sorry), except the more mainstream sports games, particularly the infamous FIFA games and the like (though I may join my siblings if they feel like playing some multiplayer). My venture into video games began with the NES and a pirate console of some sort (it was the early nineties and I live someplace where video gaming was not prominent at the time), but it wasn’t until I received my GameBoy Colour and a copy of Pokemon Red that I truly began to enjoy, nay love video gaming. Fast forward to today, I will play any game as long as the game is fun and engaging, preferably from both gameplay and story but exceptions exist of course. From major franchises (The Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem, Ace Attorney, Monkey Island) to indie developed titles (Machinarium, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Mutand Mudds, Analogue: A Hate Story, Bastion) to even retro abandonware (the Super Solvers series, Elderscrolls: Arena, Pepper’s Adventures, Ecoquest 1 and 2), I’m always ready to give a game a go!
Of course this is not my only interest. This being an anime site, I too love anime and consequently manga as well. My venture into this world began really with Akazukin Cha Cha (though I did not realise it at the time), but I was more formally introduced through Ranma 1/2, Galaxy Angels and Gensomaden Saiyuki. However my love blossomed during my studies abroad mainly due to the influence of like-minded comrades introducing gems like Midori no Hibi, Great Teacher Onizuka and Slayers. Currently, I still enjoy watching anime, though at a lesser rate than I did in the past. Perhaps I had more energy back then… dang, that made me sound old! One thing that has not diminished though is my manga consumption rate. Restricted by what is available and translated, I will read and reread my manga collection whether in physical or digital form. With both anime and manga, I have a particular genre I favour. Well, it’s more of a combination of two genres: Slice of Life and Comedy. Some great examples of this genre include Nichijou, Azumanga Daioh, You’re Under Arrest and Usotsuki Lily. I can read or watch other genres, but I find myself enjoying a larger proportion of both anime and manga falling in the aforementioned category.
Besides the big three, I read the occasional novel (try works from Brian Jacques or Terry Pratchett, I grew up reading and loving both their stories), listen to music and dabble in light music composition, and I have some experience with digital art (mainly animation and drawing). Perhaps it’s due to influences from my favourite authors, but I do tend to ramble on and on. I do hope that despite that you’ll enjoy my posts, both current and future ones. One thing I do enjoy is a good discussion on various topics (anything from the big three is especially welcome haha) so do post a reply or message if you wish to inquire something of me or just want someone to discuss stuff; be it about the current trend of online DRM (Spincity for the lulz) or the obvious similarities of characters in Shimoku Kio’s Spotted Flower and Genshiken, I’m all ears.
For now have a cookie, mya. *tosses one over*
Many thanks too to Nuu for allowing me to be a co-author here and in the process allowing me a space to voice my thoughts in this vast electronic ocean, small as they are.
And a huge thank you for reading all the way here! Have another cookie, and I’ll see you around!
