Ironically enough, I was salivating to see Mysterious Girlfriend X (Nazo no Kanojo X) before I even read the description. All I saw was a picture of some girl hunching over a guy…drooling in his mouth. Why I thought of Senjougahara, I don’t know — even though she’s crazy enough to force Araragi to drink hers. Oh wait, the scissors, thats right. But moving on, I’ve always been intrigued by the more “weirder” shows, so I couldnt wait to see how unusual the female protagonist was. I’m going to say right now, code, “YCZQDQZY36RE.” SHE’S FRICKING WEIRD.

It’s not cum….seriously, it’s not though

Just a random sidenote: In most anime shows, the tsundere (79% bitch, 21% kawaii, 102% dayam she hot) usually refuse friendships other than the people they actively befriend (which is like never) or people who don’t make repeated tries to gain her trust. Equally important, the cold-shouldered girl (typically) needs her love interest to be just as weird as herself with some unique power. If that isn’t the case, 100% of the time they end up being a completely spineless wimp.

SHE’S IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, CALM DOWN

In this new drool-inducing show the male lead, Akira Tsubaki, is the latter. For the most part, I can learn to get over the pushover male types even though I think they need to be abolished from anime, but I can’t get over this one. He’s scared of a girl with scissors…like COME ON. Granted, she’s pretty good with them, but jeez. The thing irritating me the most about Tsubaki is the fact he doesn’t make his relationship (with Mikoto Urabe) public mostly because she’s REALLY weird. More stupid than that, when people start talking about putting it in and around her mouth, he gets upset. WELL BITCH WHAT’D YOU EXPECT!?! Furthermore, in episode 8, he never tries to claim her even when his classmates are like, “I’d hit DAT.” Absolutely pitiful. To add drool to injury, he can’t even tell his best friend, Kouhei Ueno…who revealed his secret relationship to (actually attractive) Ayuko Oka with Akira. The more I think about Tsubaki, the more I get upset.

THIS BISH IS NOT SERIOUS

I read a study saying spineless guys are popular because they’re more emotionally connected. I have nothing to say about that, but in regards to this, it’s so wrong. Willingly licking up someone’s saliva (from a vial no less) IS NOT being emotionally connected or even being a freak…it’s being SICK. It wouldn’t be so bad if they called it saliva instead of “drool,” but they don’t. Drool just sounds vile. Honestly, the drool consuming wasnt hard to watch, it was how instead of saying, “heyy Tsubaki, don’t kiss me because you’re repulsive,” she let her spit do it. For those who know me, you know I have quite a few guilty anime pleasures (Chu-Bra! & Upotte!), but this is pure lunacy. Off the bat, Urabe reminded me of Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgram vs. The World, but I contemplated a couple differences:

• skinny w/NO ass…
• decent boobs.
• In middle school?
• Drools.
• Doesn’t like to be touched much from boyfriend.
• Quite Tsundere.
• Wields scissors in her underwear.

• has nice body all around.
• In high school.
• Does NOT drool.
• Likes to be touched.
• Slightly Tsundere.
• Equipped w/GIFANTIC mallet…IN HER PURSE.

Tsun..tsun..tsun…

So basically, Ramona is less Tsun, more hot, and Urabe is less…everything. Period. However, though Urabe does technically have more friends, Ramona is still much friendlier. The only reason Mikoto has a friend is because of drool. I understand it’s the theme of the show (which is fine), but even people like Oka, who came at her 100% correct are 100% liable to get shut down. With Ramona, she warmed up to Scott and was sociable with his crew. All that’s to say: Urabe is a superficial bitch who doesn’t know what she wants. In an earlier episode, a track star asks Mikoto out and she makes Akira suffer a day actually considering the offer! I will say Tsubaki partially deserved it since he didn’t claim her from the start…but seriously? I have the feeling if eating glue made her feel better than her invertebrate boyfriend, she’d ditch him faster than a donkey on a scooter. I could go on, but I’m sure you get the picture. I won’t say Mysterious Girlfriend X is a bad show, but it certainly has it’s quirks. Some people may view them as perfect imperfections, and others may view them as plain weird. Me personally? I don’t like them, but I haven’t dropped it, so that should already let you know it’s still worth a look. Review coming soon.
