Final Exam Tips, Ganbatte!

Final Exam Tips, Ganbatte!

Hello you all. Just letting everyone know this week is finals for me as well as many other anime bloggers in college. Thus, I probably won’t be posting as much this week as I usually do if at all. I know that people in high-school also have tests and whatnot coming up too, so knowing that, I wanted to take a quick minute to tell everyone good-luck and make sure to do the following to get those papers and other material-to-turn-in up to snuff:

1) If actually turning in a paper in physical form, be sure to:
  • Use size 13 font. It is UNNOTICEABLE & I know from experience. I’ve been doing it forever.
  • If you have to do single spacing, push it up to 1.2 or 1.3 spacing. I haven’t tried 1.5, but that’s probably noticable.
  • If using double spacing, do the same thing and push it up to 2.2 or 2.3; whichever you feel comfortable with.
  • Most professors/teachers have strict margin rules. If they don’t, use this to your advantage and squeeze them in.
  • Use “replace” function to replace periods with size 13-15 periods. I haven’t done it, but a lot of students tell me they do it.
2) Don’t keep using the same transitional phrases in your papers, here is a list for you thanks to Richmond.Edu that I’ve been using since high-school. This is what separates the geniuses from the dummies.

GB13

Illustration Ths, for example, for instance, namely, to illustrate, in other words, in particular, specifically, such as.
Contrast On the contrary, contrarily, notwithstanding, but, however, nevertheless, in spite of, in contrast, yet, on one hand, on the other hand, rather, or, nor, conversely, at the same time, while this may be true.
Addition And, in addition to, furthermore, moreover, besides, than, too, also, both-and, another, equally important, first, second, etc., again, further, last, finally, not only-but also, as well as, in the second place, next, likewise, similarly, in fact, as a result, consequently, in the same way, for example, for instance, however, thus, therefore, otherwise.
Time After, afterward, before, then, once, next, last, at last, at length, first, second, etc., at first, formerly, rarely, usually, another, finally, soon, meanwhile, at the same time, for a minute, hour, day, etc., during the morning, day, week, etc., most important, later, ordinarily, to begin with, afterwards, generally, in order to, subsequently, previously, in the meantime, immediately, eventually, concurrently, simultaneously.
Space At the left, at the right, in the center, on the side, along the edge, on top, below, beneath, under, around, above, over, straight ahead, at the top, at the bottom, surrounding, opposite, at the rear, at the front, in front of, beside, behind, next to, nearby, in the distance, beyond, in the forefront, in the foreground, within sight, out of sight, across, under, nearer, adjacent, in the background.
Concession Although, at any rate, at least, still, thought, even though, granted that, while it may be true, in spite of, of course.
Similarity Of Comparison Similarly, likewise, in like fashion, in like manner, analogous to.
Emphasis Above all, indeed, truly, of course, certainly, surely, in fact, really, in truth, again, besides, also, furthermore, in addition.
Details Specifically, especially, in particular, to explain, to list, to enumerate, in detail, namely, including.
Examples For example, for instance, to illustrate, thus, in other words, as an illustration, in particular.
Consequence/Result: So that, with the result that, thus, consequently, hence, accordingly, for this reason, therefore, so, because, since, due to, as a result, in other words, then.
Summary Therefore, finally, consequently, thus, in short, in conclusion, in brief, as a result, accordingly.
Suggestion For this purpose, to this end, with this in mind, with this purpose in mind, therefore. (All Transitional Information from writing2.richmond.edu)

3) Make sure to get a GOOD breakfast before your classes/finals. Having a good meal keeps you going through the day. Don’t skip and drink a lot of water.

4) Have 2 or 4 pens and pencils along with paper and all your important information such as ID and even a few dollars in case of an emergency event like you needing to buy some more supplies or anything in general.

5) Everyone says reviewing & cramming are completely different, but lets get real, cramming happens. If you must do either, do yourself a favor and use FLASH-CARDS. They help SOOOOOOO much. You’ll be glad you used them.

6) This next one’s probably obvious, but be sure to notice questions that might be linked to another query. Some answers might be in the questions you’ve already completed and even/especially ones to come.

7) Trust your instincts…they’re probably right – at least that’s what studies show. Try to only change them if you are sure they are wrong.

8*) Never leave any answers blank, especially if you are taking a multiple-choice test.

9) If you’re going into an exam just BLIND, then don’t worry about marking random answers. Pick one answer, A, B, C, or D. And STICK with it. You’ll be surprised how many you’ll get right. This works great with the SAT/ACT. For answers you don’t know, have one answer you ALWAYS use no matter what. You’ll be proud you did.
10) Last, but not least, DON’T WORRY IF MOST OF THE CLASS FINISHES BEFORE YOU!!! So what!!! Just do you and try to do your best! In light of that, have some good exams and as I say every now and then, Ganbatte Ne!!!

Is that second picture of Marl Kingdom origins o.o?

And lol, very useful article. the paper expansion techniques are real genius xD and I’m saving down those transitional phrases.

Flashcards never really worked for me though :/

Cue rolly pencil with an MC answer letter written on each face!
And wasn’t there the thing where most MC answers are rarely A or B, and usually instead C and after?

You’re advice on papers is dead on. I usually don’t use them (because I can write a book on almost anything), but I know for a fact that they do work.

Overall I found this very helpful, even though I don’t have any written final exams (because I’m a fuckin artist bitch). I mean, I had one, but I did so well in the class that my teacher told me I was exempt from the final (along with only 4 other students….that’s right, I actually am a good writer, despite how shitty my writing looks on my site).

Great tips. It is also important to know that if you are running into a bind on an assignment or your having diffaculty studying for an exam, it is always a good idea to talk to your professor. By talking to your professor about where your running into diffaculties, you will be able to get a better understanding of what they are looking for when it comes to an assignment or exam.

I find that talking to my professors realy helps me do better with my course work and get better grades as well.

@ NingYo: You know what…I don’t know to be quite honest about which multiple choice (mc) answer was used the most. I looked it up a while ago and I believe “C” was the one, but I’ll have to look back. And yeah, I basically used the 13point font thing and that did the trick just fine.

@ Glo: Lol, I didn’t know you were an artist, wow, mad respect, like seriously. I know how hard it is to do that sort of thing. It’s just as hard as writing boring shit. And yeah, I’m sure your writing is pretty good. I feel mine is too and these days, everytime I make a post, I feel like I’ve already used the same words a ba-zillion times in previous articles. Meh, it’s whatever though. Gratz on the ‘by’ from your teacher :)

@ AnimeRemix: Yeah, that’s DEFINITELY good, but my finals and many others start tomorrow so it’s a bit late lolll. And the rest is sooo true. If you meet up with your professors, they’ll give you the benefit of the doubt more than naught. Nice tip :)

Accidentally Overlooked First Comment: So I heard justhost communist’d finally anime for a while? How did that end up settling for the best? Did it even settle for the best o.o?
Oh, and try this site. It should work over the other one. I mean, it better D:< …
I'm hoping they won't hijack your site again D:?

Second Comment: Did my comment get eaten up o.o? I don't remember a moderation queue on FA.
Anyways, I was just asking about justhost communist-ing your site. Did everything end up settling for the best?
O, and try this site; it should work over the other one. With all the bloodjuice I've put into it, it better.
I'm hoping they won't hijack FA again D:?

@ Kanzeon: Yeah, no problem! And Ganbatte Ne!!! I hope your exams go great :)

@ Ningyo: Honestly, I don’t know. Sometimes it doesn’t correctly let people know if your comment’s considered spam or not. Usually I check spam since some people’s accidentally is identified as spam, but I think I only checked 3, then deleted it. Or maybe it got eaten up when my site was down. The last thing I was doing was moderating comments and I never logged out. That might be it, and oh, yeah, JustHost definitely decided to fuck me in the ass when I woke up from my nap yesterday. Talk about a rude awakening. I mean, they’re basically messing with my baby.

If you tried to include a link, I don’t think it went through :( I jusssstttt got done backing up my stuff as soon as I got access and am looking into this whole situation to make sure I won’t have any problems in the future. Baka-Raptor did me a gigantic favor and did some invaluable research about just-host’s policy and told me some notable info. And yeah, I don’t appreciate jacking of my site lol.

Just be sure to gimme the link when you get some time :)

Thanks for the tips! :D using size 13 font?! LOL that’s a good one, if I get caught for doing all that illegal stuff I’ll blame it all on you :P jkjk. If I drink a lot of water before a exam I’ll proab have to pee a lot xD.. cramming definitely works best for me, I can remember everything so much better. You know my teachers are always saying to use flashcards but they never ever work for me, I get all impatient have to write stuff out.I do worry when the class finish b4 me, can’t help it xD I always run out of time b4 I finish a exam :S

    • admin FaS says:

Lol, well like I said, you only do it if you’re nootttt turning it in online. Size 13 font is IMPOSSIBLE to notice, I promise. And yeah, I really don’t like flash cards either because they feel so expendable; like after you’re done with them, they’re not useful anymore. About 100-200 flashcards thrown away. Useless. And yeah, I don’t know if I’m just dumb or something, but I’m always the last person to leave and I feel dumb and rushed when people leave. I try not to, but it’s hard. Idk, maybe it’s a (wannabe) writer’s thing. Overthinking things and whatnot.
