(Visit the Winter 2010 Preview Post first if you don’t know what Seikon no Qwaser is) The first time I saw the Seikon no Qwaser trailer, I thought it had much potential. I mean, come on, what show have you seen where the character with the scythe WASN’T cool? Exactly. The only thing I had a hard time figuring out was if the chick(?) with the gray hair, wielding the scythe was…well, a girl or a guy. After getting myself away from the pictures and actually looking at the trailer (and not to mention the summary) more than once, I came to terms with myself, and decided this gray haired chick was actually a guy. But enough of that, on to the main story.

First, here’s the formal summary: The St. Mikhailov Academy student Oribe Mafuyu comes across a mysterious silver haired boy. He is called a Qwsaer, a being that draws power from Soma and is able to manipulate a specific element. And now, in the 21st century, the mystery revolving around an Icon turns the academy into the battlegrounds for the fight between the Qwaser!

Now if you read my earlier post regarding upcoming Winter 2010 anime titles, you would know I thought the concept behind this show was pretty cool. How fun to have a source of power right? Kind of gives you the feel of Soul Eater, where the damage dealer needs a supporting character. Seems legit enough to me. However, what I didn’t know would soon rock my world in such a profound way. Here’s the summary from Wikipedia. Check THIS out:

The story takes place on the grounds of St. Mihailov Academy, a Japanese Eastern Orthodox school, and draws heavily on religious references from the aforementioned religion. Here it follows the trials and hardship of two of its students, Oribe Mafuyu and Tomo Yamanobe, until the encounter with a mysterious, silver-haired, Russian boy named Alexander, or Sasha for short. This pits them and the whole school in an all-out war between the Church itself and the so-called “Adepts”, a sect of individuals wielding powers linked to the elements of chemistry. Though based on the common magical girl concept shown in series such as Sailor Moon, the story diverges in depicting extreme acts of bloodshed, brutality and perversion, and also makes heavy use of fanservice.

One important and controversial theme of the series is that of the sacred substance known as Soma, which allows the Qwasers to draw upon their powers and wield their elements in battle. This is connected to the main goal of the Adepts, the Theotokos of Tsarytsin, an icon depicting the Virgin Mary breastfeeding an infant Jesus which, according to their belief, holds the secrets of the Sacred Mysteries, such as the Messiah’s resurrection. Linked to this is the fact that the Soma is, in actuality, breast milk, and that the Qwasers have to replenish themselves by means of suckling it, a process which apparently derives pleasure and tires heavily those women who nurse them.

YOU SEE THAT????? BREASTFEEDING!?!?!?!? THAT’S FRIGGIN CRAZY…COOL :D I wish I was an Adept. I’d hook up that Soma so much, I’d bottle it. I haven’t really been surfing the net as much as I’ve been wanting to, but I don’t really remember seeing anything weird on AnimeNewsNetwork or Animenation about it. But I’m still surprised I didn’t know this beforehand. Complementing the amount of information I knew nothing about, there’s even more.

Alexander (the gray haired guy), controls iron. While having the ability to change it’s molecular shape, he can also make it insanely cold or hot. Ekaterina Kurae, a small 10 year old girl has the wherewithal to manipulate copper, which usually makes her gain control and manipulate electrical wires and redirect their flow to electrocute and incinerate her foes (wiki). Another female known as Elizabeth can use titanium.Adapted into a greatsword called Excalibur, the titanium alloy allows for a high-frequency blade, which can produce massive shockwaves slicing through almost anything. Many other interesting character/elemental combinations also exist such as magnesium, sodium, & gold just to name a few. More detailed info can be found in Wikipedia.

You didn’t think I was done did you? Helllsss no! The main feature of this story is a trailer I stumbled upon. I was doing the usual googling and the Livedoor blog (only in Japanese) had scans of an UNCENSORED Seikon no Qwaser trailer! I just had to find it. While waiting for a match to end in Blazblue, playing with PopnLocker, I finally was able to find it! And now, I stream it to you! So feast your eyes on something you’ve been dying to see! (IF VIDEO IS UNAVAILABLE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!)
