Ok, now listen, I love Miyazaki. He’s one of the best, hands down…but my qualms aren’t with him. They’re with Disney. If you’ve noticed, Disney’s been coming out with many 3D animation movies and not too many ‘cartoons’ these days. Surprise? No, not really. People these days (not anime people) like seeing more realistic things. In fact, I think Disney’s mainly been spitting out these hideous films. Oh yeah, they have a black cinderella…? Or wait….I can’t remember. All I know was they were trying to diversify. Wonderful, I’m all for that and wouldn’t mind actually seeing it. However, that’s far from the problem.
Anime to all anime viwers is sacred (right…?) What I mean is that when anything tries to “ride” or “copy” off of anime to make profit, it really disgusts us. Seeing Disney’s branding on another film makes me so effin sick. I don’t care if Studio Ghibli did it. Like seriously, this is the first Miyazaki film in a long time and now since they don’t have anymore clientele, they want to reach for anime fans. Pitiful. Just dreadful. It’d be more believable if they had a steady stream of movies out. If they have, someone tell me so I can delete half of this post.
Movie InfoRandom Stuff
Anyways, I’ll stop with the ranting and get on with things. Apparently, this film has been in the woodwork for a month or two already and already came out in Japan. Miyazaki eschews the normal process of digital rendering and does everything by hand. When you watch the trailer, you can tell. I’ll have to gather some more information, but in short, Ponyo is a story about a goldfish longing to become human. This movie tells of his journey. Release Date: August 14th (straight to DVD & Blu-Ray I believe) Disney < Miyazaki pwns = period.
